On Friday, Dec. 2nd 2016 from 6pm-9pm at Shakas Live in Virginia Beach, we will be collecting donated clothing and blankets to help the Homeless in Hampton Roads, VA. Through Networking, Live Music, 50/50 Raffle, Door Prizes, and Vendor Opportunities, young professionals will vibe together to make an impact in our community by raising funds and awareness for Blankets For The Homeless, a small nonprofit organization making big headlines.
The mission of Blankets for the Homeless is to encourage and inspire as many people as possible to join them in helping the homeless and to change the way the people view the homeless.
“They are people in desperate need of help, compassion and dignity as they try to survive in the worst of circumstances. This is our mission, and our ministry. To spread God’s love while helping his hurting children.” -Mariah Smith, Founder - Blankets For The Homeless.
If you're from the Hampton Roads area you know that our weather changes so drastically, we can have all four seasons in one week! In the hustle and bustle of our daily routines, we may sometimes take for granted certain basic physiologic needs; food, water, and shelter are a few of them that keep us warm and comfortable. This December we will be continuing where we left off with our community outreach efforts last month to help our homeless weather through these long and frigid nights ahead.
After 9pm, enjoy Flashback: 80s & 90s Dance Party / Old School Reuinion with vibes from Kuya Tribe, home-grown legendary DJ Crew.
The awards aim to highlight the real superheroes across Coastal Virginia that work tirelessly to address the needs of the community and the people in it. After a nomination period and a series of online voting rounds, Blankets for the Homeless was voted #2 in our region for the 2015 year. Special thanks to Coastal Virginia Magazine's publisher, Randy Thompson; editor and chief, Melissa Stewart; Creative Director, Dave Uhrin; Videographer, Chris Conway; and everyone who voted for Blankets for the Homeless in the 2014 Giving Back Awards. We are appreciative of all those who help spread the word and bring awareness to the community about the homeless. We also want to congratulate all of the other non-profits who work endlessly for their cause to make a positive impact.
